Algeria leads the Arab countries in terms of the number of government-owned FM radio stations

A new report from the Arab Advisors Group provides an analysis of the FM radio stations landscape in the Arab World. The research revealed that 210 local government-owned FM radio stations broadcast in 14 Arab countries by December 2011, compared to 72 private radio stations. The report also analyzed 7 regional radio stations that broadcast on FM frequencies in multiple countries. These regional stations raise the total number of FM radio stations to 289 in 14 Arab countries by end of 2011.

By November 2011, 38 Arab cellular operators had commercially launched 3G/3.5G networks

A new Arab Advisors Group report reveals that during the period between December 2009 and November 2011, 3G/3.5G services were launched in four more countries; increasing the number of Arab countries with 3G/3.5G services to seventeen. The most common 3G/3.5G service offered by the operators is mobile Internet, followed by video calling and mobile TV. As for LTE services, they were commercially available in three Arab countries by January 2012; Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait.

 A new Arab Advisors Group’s survey of cellular users in Jordan reveals insightful details on the smartphones adoption and usage patterns in Jordan. The survey also probed general cellular usage habits, smartphones awareness in addition to tablets availability among cellular users in Jordan.

Egypt & Saudi Arabia, followed by the UAE, host the highest number of FTA channels broadcasting in the Arab World.

The number of FTA satellite TV channels in the Arab World increased by 10.5% between April 2010 and April 2011 to reach 538 channels broadcast on Arabsat, Nilesat and Noorsat (fully operational channels reached 501). Arab Advisors Group research revealed that the highest number of channel types were the private-sector general channels followed by government-sector general channels.

Saudi Arabia is the Arab World’s most competitive cellular market

The Arab Advisors Group released the results of its Cellular Competition Intensity Index 2011 this month at the margin of the 8th annual Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference in Amman on June 6 & 7 2011. The index ranks Saudi Arabia as the most competitive Arab cellular market. Jordan came in second, followed by Palestine.

 

Saudi Arabia’s Internet users spent around US$ 3 billion in 2010 on buying products and services through e-commerce.

A new Arab Advisors Group survey of Saudi Arabia’s Internet users revealed that around 39% of the adult Internet users in the country buy products and pay for services online through e-commerce services. Electronics are the most popular products bought online, followed by software, while airline tickets booking and hotel reservations are the top services paid for online.
